Lan Parties are computer events where people take along their own computers and connect them together on a Local Area Network or LAN. They are generally used to meet like minded people and play games against one another where each persons internet connection isn't a limiting factor. It's a very level playing field when everyone is in the same room. There is also something slightly satisfying to be able to shout at the person across the room who is killing you in a first person shooter game rather than just shout at the computer screen.
I have attended numerous events over the years. Some big, some small but all a good laugh. Below is a list of the events I attend on a regular basis.
WestLAN is a group of people who hold Lan Parties near Exeter in Devon, UK. They hold regular events 3 or 4 times a year.
Events are usually held in Budleigh Salterton town hall. Budleigh is approximately 13 miles from Exeter on the South Coast of Devon. The events run for about 48 hours, from Friday night to Sunday afternoon. It is mainly a gaming event, but it is also quite a social event. Lots of friends meeting up from different parts of the country at the Lans.
I have helped out at the events for several years, I tend to look after the network services and the odd game server. I have attended WestLAN events since early 2002. The events are a good weekend of fun and games - well worth attending even if you aren't a huge game player.

LanGeeks generally run smaller events in comparison to WestLAN although they are often more fun to attend. The attendance is growing lan on lan and the atmosphere in the hall is always very friendly.
